LIBRIS Segment

Requirements For The LIBRIS Segment

The LIBRIS segment is available through the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America. It is awarded for completing the requirements of a reading program in the units. This document lists the requirements for the LIBRIS as specified by Pack 474.

This segment can be earned once per academic year. These can be earned by completing the following requirements:

• Visit the library.
• Have a King County Library card.
• Record the number of minutes the cub scout reads to be at least as much as the present grade level multiplied by 250 minutes. Tiger Cubs can include the time a parent reads with them. The following chart can be used.

1^st grade = 250 minutes

2^nd grade = 500 minutes

3^rd grade = 750 minutes

4^th grade = 1000 minutes

5^th grade = 1250 minutes

• Record information about a minimum of seven of the items read. Include the following information: the title, the author, the illustrator or publisher, number of pages, and a few sentences about the material read, (e.g. a brief description, what was liked or disliked, why this item was selected, etc.) Parents may assist boys in the writing of this information.

When the requirements have been completed the forms should be shown to the Den Leader. The Den Leader will then notify the Advancement Chairman to award the segment at the next pack meeting.
